3 Considerations When Doing Kambo
So, you are thinking about doing Kambo. What now? Here are three considerations to keep in mind to help you make the most of your Kambo experience.
Trust must drive your decision to sit with Kambo. This is a very important component to doing Kambo, as you will be in a very vulnerable position that will require you to relinquish control and surrender to the process and to another person. Do your research in order to completely understand what to expect from your Kambo experience. Then begin to find a trustworthy and certified practitioner; ask friends, reach out to groups on social media, contact and speak with potential practitioners, ask questions, etc. You should sit with somebody who is certified so that you stay safe; there are contraindications that can make Kambo dangerous for certain people and only trained practitioners will know what these are. The IAKP is a great place to find trained, reputable people who facilitate Kambo worldwide.
Intention is another important consideration when sitting with Kambo. Although not necessary, it is a good idea to come to the frog with an intention—something you’d like to see manifest, change, etc. in your life, or perhaps just a purpose for sitting with Kambo (e.g. my purpose today is to just let go of some anger). Kambo is called an “ordeal” medicine* because the process is unpleasant, challenging, and even painful. So, if these sensations become too overwhelming, an intention will keep a person grounded and help one shift focus and lean in to the discomfort and learn from it rather than be controlled by it.
Integration is probably the most important aspect of doing Kambo. Integration is “how” we implement our Kambo experience into daily life. Many make the mistake of thinking that the process of doing Kambo is the actual work, but the true task begins when we integrate our experience in such a way as to grow, to learn, to be better, to realize, and so much more. If our intention in doing Kambo is to detox and improve our eating habits, then our real work begins when we are tempted by bad food and resist it anyway. Kambo is not a magic bullet—it really only gives us better insight into how we can improve who we are and how we live. Here are some suggestions to assist you in your Kambo integration:
· Get plenty of rest
· Eat whole, unprocessed foods
· Stay hydrated
· Be active—hike, dance, walk, play
· Journal to help you track your growth, changes, and challenges
· Care for your body—get massages, practice yoga, do energy work
· Watch how much media/social media you are consuming
· Care for your mind—meditate; watch/control thoughts
· Be compassionate with yourself and others
If you are ready to try Kambo, these considerations will help you to surrender to the process and to work with its benefits long after your session is over.
*The word “medicine” is used frequently in conjunction with Kambo; however, its use in this blog does not constitute or suggest any assertions that Kambo is medicine that offers any cures.
