Contemplating the Self

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” –Aristotle

Hiding Who We Are

Many of us go through life adopting a persona that somebody or something has defined and imposed upon us, forcing us to wear masks of conformity, faces of invisibility. As we start to embrace our consciousness, however, cracks in the façade begin to elicit shards of light in the shadowed caverns of our souls. What we find there can either awaken our need for authenticity, or it can lull into a deeper sleep. For those brave enough to “see”, Kambo helps shine the light into the recesses of who we truly are, casting awareness on the pretenses we have adopted and projected throughout our lives.

It is often said that Kambo scans us, looking into the depths of our bodies and our spirits in order to give us the experience we need most for our spiritual and personal growth. I believe that the experience many us need most is coming face to face with our authentic self—the self we hide from the world, protect from others, and deny within us. Kambo see these layers, pulls at the loose threads of the fabric of being, and reminds us that what we all need is already within us. All we have to do is commit to seeing what we are shown, to sit with the beauty and ugliness of who we are, to sew up the frayed ends of our potential.

Recognizing Who We Are

The beauty of Kambo is its ability to give us wisdom in who we are. The experience is different for every person, but the one thing most of us can agree upon is that Kambo is truly a challenging endeavor. When the sensations of Kambo begin, we have two choices really—resist and cling or surrender and let go. And who we are will dictate the choice.

If we cling to our dramas in life, if we feel victimized at every little indiscretion by others, if we do not take responsibility for our own problems and growth, Kambo will be harder than it needs to be. The purge may take longer, creating unnecessary struggle with the process. Bodily discomfort may feel unbearable, and time will feel endless.

Conversely, if we are able to resist life’s dramas, if we can forego taking things personally, if we lay down all reasons for defending our “selves” and take responsibility for who we are, Kambo may provide profound self-growth and essential understanding. The purge becomes a blessing, a removal of toxicity and a release of those things that stifle our spirit. Discomfort feels manageable, even essential in the release all things stagnant.

Being Who We Are

When we make the decision to sit with Kambo, we are ultimately committing to explore our higher selves and to sit with who we are. Whether we cling in life or we are great at letting go, Kambo casts light on who we truly are and who we long to be. If the “you” trying to break free of the cultural mask is ready to be seen, then Kambo is ready to light your way. Be brave enough to pick up the torch, to shine it on all of your ugliness and beauty, and to see your true potential, your highest self. So, what are you waiting for? Sit with the frog. Explore your “self”. Find your authenticity.
